Led by Dr. Olenka Bilash, this research initiative is funded by the Kule Institute of Advanced Studies and various partners whose logos are shown on this site. This project is exploring three dimensions of the ongoing democratic reform of the government of Ukraine: good governance and the rule of law (led by Dr. Bohdan Harasymiw), post-secondary education reform (led by Drs. Jerry Kachur and Roman Petryshyn), and nationality and language policies (led by Dr. Alla Nedashkivska).
All three topics are being investigated both as they emerge in Ukraine and as they impact the diaspora in Canada and beyond. Building on an earlier successful rapid response initiative among four universities, led by the University of Alberta, we the project team of nineteen researchers from seven universities (three in North America and four in Europe) have committed to generating a website, three digital peer-reviewed conferences and online published proceedings, articles and presentations over a three-year period and contribute to this democratic reform by involving Ukrainian and other partners in a steering committee for the project and as researchers. These products and partnerships shall position us to apply for additional larger grants to sustain this initiative and continue to build critical research capacity.
If you or your university would like to join any of our three research clusters please contact us. We shall keep you apprised of the call for papers for the three conferences.
