This paper analyses the representation of the Crimean Tatar ethnic minority in Ukraine through media discourses and visual culture (films, popular culture, etc.) and reveals how and to what extent the ethnic community constructs these images. Understanding the specifics of adaptation of the Crimean Tatars into the urban environment of the mainland Ukraine since the annexation of Crimea and forced resettlement that followed it is the second task to be achieved.
Dr. Zubkovich’ academic interests embrace memory studies, socio-cultural and political transformations of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, discourse studies on ethnicity and national identification, museum studies and migration. She has published a number of articles and several books, including Dealing with the Yugoslav Past: Exhibition Reflections in the Successor States (ibidem-Verlag, 2017) and the edited volume Multi-faced Transformations: Challenges and Studies (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015), in co-authorship with Matej Makarovic and Elena Danilova.
